WOODBRIDGE - Many New Jersey residents have already hit the road to get a jumpstart on their holiday travel.

Experts expect a record number of drivers on New Jersey roads this holiday travel period. AAA considers the year-end period to be from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3.

The reason for the large amount of drivers could be the recent decrease in the price of gas. Experts say the national average for the price of fuel is the lowest it’s been in years.

With Christmas Eve on a Thursday and Christmas Day on a Friday, many travelers are leaving early to take a long weekend.

AAA estimates holiday travelers nationwide will top 100 million this holiday season.
