BRIDGEWATER - A train struck a police vehicle near Bridgewater this afternoon.

NJ Transit officials say Bridgewater police were in the area investigating reports of a trespasser on the tracks when the collision occurred. They say a police officer was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.

NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley line was temporarily shut down between Raritan and Bridgewater, but has resumed service.
