PATERSON - Passengers on a New Jersey Transit train on the Main Bergen Port Jervis line were stranded for a while Thursday night after the train was involved in a collision with a car.

The crash happened near Fifth Avenue and Wait Street in Paterson around 7:30 p.m.

Officials have not released how many people were inside the car at the time of the accident or how badly they were hurt. News 12 New Jersey was told that at least one person had to be hospitalized.

There were more than 100 people on the train at the time of the collision. None of the passengers were hurt. Some passengers tell News 12 that they hardly felt the impact of the crash. They say that they had to wait on the train for more than an hour before they were allowed off.

Buses were brought in to bring the passengers to their next destination. The accident caused some delays on the rail line.
