EDISON - A fiery tractor-trailer crash shut down the southbound New Jersey Turnpike in Edison Tuesday afternoon.

State police say the truck driver was travelling southbound between exits 10 and 11 when a rear tire burst. The tractor-trailer overturned and slid on its side before striking a guardrail.

The truck caught fire, and the driver was rescued from the cab by another motorist. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for an evaluation. No other injuries were reported.

Drivers experienced heavy delays as a result of the crash.
