MORRISTOWN - A small sailboat launched by a Morris County middle school class four months ago has washed up on the shores of Spain.
This is the fourth year in a row that the sixth-graders at Morristown-Beard School launched a 5-foot-long, unmanned sailboat. The boat is equipped with a GPS tracker to allow the students to watch its journey.
The students also placed a variety of moments inside the hull of the ship, such as letters, friendship bracelets, a baseball and a Pez dispenser. All of the items survived the journey to Spain.
The last time the students launched one of these boats, it ended up in France. The students then became pen pals with the people who found it.
The students this year hope the same thing will happen in Spain.
