Toy gun leads to Linden school lockdown

A 14-year-old student is in the custody of Linden police after allegedly bringing a toy gun to school. Police were called to Soelh Middle School

LINDEN - A 14-year-old student is in the custody of Linden police after allegedly bringing a toy gun to school.

Police were called to Soelh Middle School at around 1:15 p.m.

According to police, the school's principal noticed a bulge in the waistband of the boy's pants and thought he might have a gun.

When approached, the boy allegedly tried to throw the gun away. Police say the school guard chased the student and school officials were able to confiscate an orange-tipped toy pistol.

The school was temporarily locked down as a result of the incident.

The boy's parents were notified. Police are waiting on charges to be filed before releasing the student.
