JACKSON TOWNSHIP - Jackson Township officials and the Jersey Central Power and Light (JCL&P) have been locked in a battle over the installation of energy-efficient street lights within the town.

Town officials say they received a $464,000 federal grant to install the LED street lights, but say that JCL&P has been stalling the installation.

JCL&P officials say before they can be installed, the new lights must meet certain safety regulations, and they claim the town isn?t willing to address them.

According to Jackson Township officials, because of the impasse, residents are losing out on more than $100,000 a year in savings, and that they may have to look for another energy provider if this issue continues.
