Toms River resident killed in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense has announced that Cpl. James W. Harvey, II, 23, of Toms River, died on June 20 in Ghazni province in Afghanistan.

EDISON - The Department of Defense has announced that Cpl. James W. Harvey, II, 23, of Toms River, died on June 20 in Ghazni province in Afghanistan.

Officials say Harvey died of wounds that he suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small firearms.

Harvey was in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

He had been assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team and 1st Infantry Division, based out of Fort Knox, Ky.
