TOMS RIVER - A paralympian from Toms River returned home this week from the Paralympic Games in London to discover the home she shares with her mother had been robbed.

The back door to Cheryl Leitner's home was kicked in and two rooms were completely ransacked. The thieves made off with some of their most prized possessions, including Leitner's gold and diamond Paralympic Games rings.

Leitner and other athletes from the London games will be honored at the White House Friday. Leitner had planned to wear her now stolen rings to the event.

Leitner has competed in three Paralympic Games in track and field.
