TOMS RIVER - Organizers of the annual Toms River Halloween Parade say the event will now be held on a Saturday near the holiday, rather than on Oct. 31 as has been the tradition in the town.

Kids in Toms River have gone trick-or-treating on Oct. 30 for the past 75 years.

Organizer Carl Weingroff believes the change will increase attendance to the festivities.

"Moving the parade to the weekend before will bring more kids into town and give kids in Toms River trick-or-treating again on Halloween night," he says.

The move will also allow neighboring communities in Ocean County to participate in the parade festivities.

This year, the parade will be held on Oct. 26, and police say having the parade on Saturday will require more overtime for officers.
