TOMS RIVER - A family is mourning the loss of 6-year-old Brandon Holt, shot Monday by a playmate. He died on Tuesday.

The Toms River community came together tonight to remember the child with a wake and a candlelight vigil. Dozens marched from wake at the funeral home to nearby Huddy Park.

Organizers say the vigil was a way to begin the healing process after tragedy struck close to home.

Friends and neighbors joined the family in a silent tribute to the young life cut short.

Brandon Holt's funeral will be held on Saturday, followed by another vigil.

Police are still investigating how the 4-year-old found the .22 caliber rifle that took Brandon Holt's life.
