NEWARK - A toddler has been taken to a nearby hospital after a bystander found the child inside a hot vehicle in Newark.
A man returning from his lunch break along Bank Street alerted a security guard, who called police. Witnesses tell News 12 New Jersey that the child had been in the car for at least an hour. Temperatures in Newark were approaching 90 degrees.
Once police arrived, the mother returned to the vehicle, saying she had gone shopping across the street. She told police officers she had cracked the window for the child.
The mother was arrested, and the vehicle was impounded.
