Thousands hit the Jersey Shore for Memorial Day weekend

EDISON - Thousands came out to the Jersey Shore to soak up the sun this holiday weekend after such a long and cold winter.

Many said they were just excited to be back on the warm beach, shoveling sand instead of snow.

While the temperatures were in the 80s on the beach, the water remained a chilly 61 degrees, meaning many chose to stay on the sand instead of hitting the water.

For those who did plan on swimming, officials urged people to use caution in the water and not swim in areas without lifeguards.
