Thieves have been targeting churches in Jersey City, stealing pipes out of ceilings in order to cash in on the copper that they are made

JERSEY CITY - Thieves have been targeting churches in Jersey City, stealing pipes out of ceilings in order to cash in on the copper that they are made of.

According to police, at least five churches in the Greenville neighborhood of have been targeted in the past several weeks.

Police say thieves went on a rampage inside Mount Zion FB Church, ripping out copper heating pipes in the sanctuary and water pipes downstairs. The church now cannot hold services.

Members of Mount Zion are using another church to hold services until repairs can be made.
