ELMWOOD PARK - The owners of the Route 4 Aquarium in Elmwood Park say a pair of thieves stole a valuable puppy from their store and that they've got the whole incident on security camera.
Joe Aversa says a man entered the store at around 4 p.m. Monday and snatched an English Bulldog puppy worth about $3,500. He says the man took the puppy into the bathroom and threw it out the window.
Aversa says the man exited the store, then came back and went into the store's basement. The man allegedly reached into a cage containing a sugar glider, but was bitten by the animal.
Aversa thinks the man was trying to steal the sugar glider too.
The man was accompanied by a woman. Aversa says the man purchased a small dog toy then left the store.
The puppy is about 7 weeks old and is not yet fully vaccinated. A veterinarian was scheduled to come in and vaccinate the puppy before it was stolen.
Aversa is offering a $1,000 cash reward for the safe return of the puppy.
