TOMS RIVER - The man accused of killing a Lakewood police officer appeared in court this afternoon to face a new murder charge.

Jahmell Crockam and another man are charged with the Oct. 15 shooting death of Justin Williams, whose body was found dumped on a Lakewood street corner. Co-defendant Darius Johnson also appeared in court.

Word of the new charges came yesterday as the funeral began for Officer Christopher Matlosz.

Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford says information leading to the new murder charge was developed as police investigated the slaying of the officer. Authorities said Officer Matlosz was gunned down last Friday as he sat in his patrol car and talked to Crockam.

Crockam is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of more than $7 million bail.

AP wire services contributed to this report.
