ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS - A local tattoo artist spent Saturday inking customers for a good cause, with all the proceeds from his fundraiser benefiting a Long Branch fire department that suffered damage during Sandy.
Tony Rodriguez, better known as "Tattoo Tony," works at the Under My Skin tattoo parlor in Atlantic Highlands and says he wanted to help the firefighters since they're always putting their lives on the line to help people. The Branchport Hose Company in Long Branch suffered $70,000 in damages during the October storm and their insurance policy doesn't cover it.
The company's fire engine and gear were saved, as the firefighters were out on call during the storm. But their firehouse ended up submerged under three and a half feet of water, damaging furniture, electricity, floors and the kitchen.
Rodriguez raised more than $1,600 yesterday and the fire company is planning additional fundraisers to reach its target.
