CARLSTADT - Police say a tanker carrying 8,500 gallons of fuel became fully engulfed in flames tonight near exit 18W on the northbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike.

All northbound traffic was being diverted off the highway at exit 16W. All southbound traffic was being rerouted to the I-95 Eastern Spur. There were at least five other vehicles involved in the accident, police say.

There have been injuries reported but officials say they are non-lifethreating. The heat from the fire may have damaged the nearby toll-booths.
