Switch problem causes NJ Transit delays

NEWARK - (AP) - New Jersey says its trains between Newarkand New York's Penn Station are running with 30- to 60-minutedelays.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Penny Bassett Hackett says the delays aredue to a switch problem near the Portal Bridge. It carries trainsacross the Hackensack River between Kearny and Secaucus.

Bassett Hackett said trains are being single-tracked betweenNewark and New York. She said the delays are likely to persist intothe evening hours Wednesday.

The delays are affecting the Northeast Corridor, North JerseyCoast Line and Midtown Direct Service.
