HAZLET - Homes and businesses were evacuated in Hazlet around Franklin Avenue and Route 36 yesterday afternoon after a suspicious device was discovered in a truck.

Police describe the device as a number of bottles with wires sticking out of it.

The bomb squad was called to deal with the device which they deemed safe a little bit before 4 p.m.

Authorities say the device was supposed to improve the mileage of the vehicle.
