HACKETTSTOWN - Hackettstown police are looking for a suspect who stabbed a man early Sunday morning.

Investigators say a man approached the 28-year-old victim around 1:30 a.m. near Madison and West Moore streets, asking for a cigarette or money.

When the victim didn't hand anything over, the suspect then pulled out a knife. The victim tried to kick the knife out of the suspect's hand but was stabbed in the foot in the process, officials say.

Officials say the victim ran to a front yard and was followed by the suspect, who then stabbed him in the back.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic man wearing a dark-colored coat and a black beanie hat with shoulder-length hair.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Hackettstown police.
