Suspect in Hackensack standoff surrenders peacefully

HACKENSACK - The Maryland prison escapee involved in a nearly four-hour police standoff in Hackensack has surrendered peacefully, according to U.S. Marshals.

Officials say 21-year-old Trevon Johnson is being held in Bergen County Jail pending extradition back proceedings.

Federal and local law enforcement officials say they were shot at earlier today while trying to arrest Johnson.

U.S. Marshals went to the location on Polifly Road and knocked on the door for 20 minutes, when shots rang out suddenly. The Marshals and task force withdrew and did not return fire. Agencies including Bergen County SWAT, New Jersey State Police and the Bergen County Sheriff were on the scene.

No injuries were reported during the ordeal.
