FAIRFIELD - The 46-year-old suspect that officials say rammed his pickup truck into a Fairfield patrol car and then drove toward officers has been identified as Jeffry Harris, of Lafayette, by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident happened on Route 46 between Plymouth Street and Clinton Road in Fairfield. One of the officers fired four shots at Harris, grazing him once in the forehead.

According to the prosecutor's office, a concerned driver called 911 about the blue Ford truck, saying that the driver appeared to be drunk.

As Fairfield officers were investigating the scene, the pickup allegedly tried to drive off and crashed into the marked police car. The truck drove over a median and headed toward an officer.

Harris is being treated for a graze wound on his forehead. The 10-year veteran officer who fired his weapon was treated and released at a hospital.

No other injuries were reported.
