Suspect arrested in murder of elderly Irvington woman

IRVINGTON - The Essex County Prosecutor's Office announced this morning that an arrest was made in the murder of 88-year-old Casetta Blunt, of Irvington.

Authorities say Yvonne Walker, 45, fatally stabbed Blunt multiple times in her home on Campfield Street just after midnight Thursday. They say Walker regularly came to the home to do chores.

"The brutal and senseless death of an 88-year-old woman who was best known in the community for tending her garden and being kind to people is an unspeakable tragedy," Acting Prosecutor Carolyn Murray stated in a news release. "We are pleased we were able to apprehend the suspect quickly.''

Walker has been charged with murder, felony murder, robbery and weapons offenses. Police probe death of elderly Irvington woman
