LAKEWOOD - Police announced the arrest of the suspect they had been searching for in connection with the shooting death of a Lakewood patrolman on Friday.

Jahmell Crockam, 19, a resident of Lakewood, was arrested by state police at around 6:30 a.m. in an apartment in Camden according to Marlene Lynch Ford, the Ocean County prosecutor.

Police say that Patrolman Matlosz drove up to Crockam who was walking on August Drive in Lakewood at around 4:00 p.m. when Crockam fired three shots at Matlosz, killing him.

Crockam is currently being held in the Ocean County Jail on $5 million bail. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday.

The wake for Patrolman Matlosz will be held Wednesday at the Lakewood Funeral Home on Route 9 in Howell from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The funeral will be held Thursday at St. Mary of the Lake Church in Lakewood at 12 p.m.
