JERSEY CITY - Authorities are hoping that surveillance video will help catch the killer of a man shot as he tried to help a woman being hassled inside a Jersey City deli.

It was early in the morning on April 26 when 25-year-old Darren Talington spotted an altercation between a man and a woman inside the A-plus deli on Grove Street.

Talington intervened as the situation became heated just before 3:45 a.m.. On surveillance video released by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, the confronted man grows angrier and the argument spills out of the store.

According to prosecutors, Talington and the man were arguing on the sidewalk when another man walked up and opened fire.

Months later, the crime still shocks people living in the heart of Jersey City, just blocks from City Hall.

Kevin Wilson says Talington's death is even more cruel because the he was trying to help.

"People see things and don't get involved," he says. "You can understand why, if you're going to lose your life because you're a good Samaritan."

Authorities hope showing the video will generate leads for a case that may be growing cold.

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious is asked to call the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
