JERSEY CITY - The Department of Children and Family Services has revoked Sunnyside Academy's operating license.
The facility had been allowed to remain open while the agency was investigating the recent arrests of two teacher's aides who were allegedly caught on camera abusing toddlers.
The day care on Chapel Street in Jersey City will be given until June 14 to file a notice of request for a hearing to appeal the deccision to close the center.
If Sunnyside decides not to appeal the decision, the facility will be shut down by the state.
DCF issued a statement saying centers are "permitted to continue operating barring a finding that children continue to remain at risk or that serious or imminent hazards exist. At this time, there has been no finding that such conditions exist" at Sunnyside Academy.
Owners at Sunnyside have not responded to inquires from News 12 New Jersey regarding their decision to appeal.
