Summit parking snafu could mean refund for shoppers

SUMMIT - Parking tickets were given out to hundreds of drivers for parking longer than two hours in a municipal lot on DeForest Avenue in Summit, but hundreds may now be getting refunds.

Summit changed its parking policy last year, making it legal to stay longer than two hours, as long as drivers paid for longer stays. However, the spots that were ticketed had nowhere to pay for staying in the spot an extended amount of time.

Michael Vemotico, a Summit Council Member, explained to News 12 New Jersey, that "every ticket that was written was written incorrectly because it's not illegal to park in that lot for more than two hours."

Now, Vemotico wants all of the tickets refunded. A judge has also thrown out several dozen unpaid tickets. Not all tickets have been refunded, but they may be well on their way.
