EDISON - A recent study shows improvements should be made to the Routes 1 & 9 corridor through Union County. It's what many call the worst roadway in the state.
The roadway is considered unsafe and congested. In order to identify what the issues are, as well as how to fix them, Union County commissioned a study on the portion that runs through Rahway, Linden and Elizabeth.
Final results suggest there could be improvements made to signage and lighting. County officials hope the report will help them win federal grants to make road improvements and make its stretch of 1 & 9 as safe as possible.
The study was paid for by a federally funded regional transportation organization called the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority.
