EDISON - A study that blames the sexual revolution of the 1960s for child sex abuse by Catholic priests is drawing fire.

Some victims and their families say the study only makes excuses for priests who violated a sacred trust.

The John Jay College study concludes that American priests, ordained in the 1940s and 1950s were unprepared for celibacy and larger numbers of conflicted priests then turned to abusing children in the decades after.

The study found that the all-male priesthood, celibacy, and gay priests did not contribute to the sex abuse scandal. New Jersey's largest archdiocese, the Archdiocese of Newark, had no comment on the study.
