Students mourn teens killed by train in Wayne

WAYNE - Students are mourning today after an NJ Transit train struck and killed two teenagers and injured a third Sunday night in Wayne.

Police have identified the victims as Alan "AJ" Mendez, 16, of Wayne, and Nicholas Sabina, 17, of Fairfield. The survivor is a 15-year-old boy from Little Falls who was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

NJ Transit officials say the three were on a railroad bridge over Route 46 in Wayne when the train came down the tracks at 9:45 p.m. Sunday.

School officials are calling for measures to ensure kids are aware of the dangers of walking along train tracks. Teens have reportedly been known to walk along the train trestle where the teens were killed.
