NEWARK - Children from Newark's Alexander Street School helped to shut down a portion of South Orange Avenue Wednesday afternoon in an attempt to end violence.

The rally came in the wake of five murders in Newark over the past three days.

"I came down here to stop the violence," said 17-year-old Nyeeam Hudson. "Stop the shooting, to let them know just because we're kids doesn't mean we don't understand."

The demonstration was part of 16 straight days of protest and prayer in the Brick City.
