ELIZABETH - A local musician who played in the Four Seasons had an emotional homecoming Sunday when a street in Elizabeth was named after him.
The corner of 3rd Avenue and High Street is now dedicated to Joe Long, who played bass and sang with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons for 11 years beginning in 1965.
Long, then known as Joey LaBracio, grew up in the Peterstown section of Elizabeth, which was a neighborhood of Italian families in his childhood.
Long isn't portrayed in the "Jersey Boys" movie based on the Four Seasons or in the Broadway show because he wasn't a founding member. Some relatives see it as an insult, so they requested that his hometown honor him.
Long says he recently started playing the bass again and that he'd like to play another gig for old time's sake.
Long now lives in Monmouth County.
