NEWARK - A statue honoring former New Jersey Gov. Brendan Byrne was unveiled today in Newark.

The former governor, superior court judge and Essex County prosecutor celebrated the event with friends, family and a number of the men who followed him into the governor's office.

"Having a chance to serve the people of New Jersey, the people of Essex County, was a great privilege," Byrne says. "A privilege I didn't need a statue as a reward for.”

The 7-foot tall statue is made of bronze, and sits outside the Veterans Courthouse in Newark.
