State Trooper Eli McCarson killed in Salem County crash (12/17/15)

QUINTON TOWNSHIP - A New Jersey state trooper has died after a car crash in Salem County.

Trooper Eli McCarson, 30, was responding to a report of a domestic dispute in Quinton Township when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an electrical pole on Quinton-Alloway Road near Route 49.

Trooper McCarson was trapped in the car, and rescuers had to pry open the doors to get him out. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.

The trooper was a member of the February 2015 state police class and worked out of the Woodstown Station. He was married.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
