TRENTON - Democrats tried to go over Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.)'s head today, holding a vote to override more than 30 of his budget vetoes.
On more than a dozen votes, Republicans held firm. They never gave Democrats the three votes they needed to reach the two-thirds majority.
Democrats tried shaming Republicans into playing ball, by accusing them of being in the governor's pocket.
Senate President Stephen Sweeney says there will be another veto override vote and that the Assembly will hear testimony all summer long on the budget, possibly leading to their own override action.
