State police suspend search for teen swimmer

The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 14-year-old boy who was swept out to sea by an undercurrent while swimming with friends off

OCEAN CITY - (AP) - The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 14-year-old boy who was swept out to sea by an undercurrent while swimming with friends off Ocean City.

The 20-hour search was suspended shortly before 4 p.m. Monday.

The boy was reported missing shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday after everyone except the teen made it back to shore. Two Coast Guard boats and a helicopter were involved in the search, along with crews from the state police's marine unit and the Ocean City Fire Department.

Authorities say six to eight people were swimming with the teen near the 9th Street Beach when they ran into a rip current.
