WALL TOWNSHIP - A Bruce Springsteen cover band is facing criticism for agreeing to play at an event in Washington ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.

The B Street Band has been playing Bruce Springsteen cover sings for more than 35 years. The New Jersey-based band will play at a party for the New Jersey State Society, a nonpartisan civic group, on the night before the inauguration in Washington.

It is an event the band has played before in 2009 and 2013 when President Barack Obama was elected.

But some Springsteen fans have taken to social media to condemn the B Street Band for playing at an event they consider to be related to Trump.

“Some of them are out and out ugly,” says lead singer Glenn Stuart. “Someone suggested on a post…that I should kill myself.”

Stuart says the contract for this gig was signed months before the election and the band would be playing it if Hillary Clinton had won as well.

“If you play at a party the day before the Super Bowl, doesn't mean you're playing at the Super Bowl,” Stuart says.

Bruce Springsteen has made no secret about how he feels about Trump. Last year the music legend called Trump a “moron."

Stuart says if Springsteen himself told the B Street Band that he objects to their performing at this event, they would pull out of the engagement.
