WALL TOWNSHIP - A Bruce Springsteen tribute band has announced that they will no longer play at a presidential inauguration gala event following criticism from some Springsteen fans.

The “B Street Band” was supposed to play at the New Jersey Inaugural Ball, a gala thrown by the nonpartisan civic group the New Jersey State Society, on the day before the inauguration. It was an event they booked before President-elect Donald Trump won the election.

Some Springsteen fans took to social media to criticize the tribute band for agreeing to play at an event associated with Trump, a figure that Bruce Springsteen himself has often condemned.

The band announced the decision not to play at the gala on their Facebook page.

“Our decision is based SOLELY on the respect and gratitude we have for Bruce and the E Street Band. Bruce's music has been the foundation of our livelihood. The B Street Band would not exist without the talents of Bruce and our E Street brothers,” the post said.

The B Street Band has played at the New Jersey gala once before in 2009 and performed during the Democratic National Convention.

Lead singer Willie Forte says that he believes much of the criticism arose because people mistakenly thought the group was going to perform at Trump's inauguration.
