The community of Nutley has begun spraying a chemical at a local park to repel birds.

Neighbors near DeMuro Park say flocks of starlings are becoming a burden on residents and property.

The chemical is used to flavor candies and soda but is painful to birds. Authorities say the sensation is similar to that of pepper spray to humans.
