Spotswood firefighter Joseph Bove III, who died less than 24 hours after a fire call, laid to rest

SPOTSWOOD - A former chief of the Spotswood Fire Department was laid to rest Tuesday.

Funeral services were held for Joseph Bove III, who died at his home last week after returning from a fire call.

Bove was the first chief to serve three consecutive terms for the Spotswood volunteer department.

"Joe was very happy-go-lucky," says Capt. Kevin Meade. "He loved his family and the fire department and was never one to turn away from helping anyone or doing what he could for whoever it need be at the time."

Because Bove died less than 24 hours after a call, his death was considered to be in the line of duty.

Bove spent 25 years volunteering for the Spotswood Fire Department.
