Speedos, bikinis now legal on Asbury Park boardwalk

ASBURY PARK - Asbury Park residents are happy the City Council repealed a 1958 ordinance banning bathing suits on the boardwalk yesterday.

Many residents say they could not recall the law ever being enforced.

Former Councilwoman Louise Murray brought attention to the law when she pressed the council to enforce the ordinance a few weeks ago.

According to Murray, allowing boardwalk bar and restaurant patrons to wear skimpy attire off the beach detracted families from visiting the Shore town.

City officials said that times have changed and the city needs to change with them. Ordinance bans swimsuits on Asbury Park's boardwalk
