South Amboy mayoral election still undecided

SOUTH AMBOY - It's more than a week after Election Day and the race for the mayor of South Amboy is still undecided.

Just one vote separates City Council President Fred Henry Jr. from his opponent, Mary O'Connor. In addition, there is controversy over a single, uncounted ballot that could either widen the gap or tie the race. Henry told News 12 New Jersey that when he was a history teacher, he always taught his students that every vote counts. O'Connor says that it's too tight to call, her campaign is very optimistic and it has requested a recount.

The Middlesex County Board of Elections will have a hearing on the outstanding mail-in ballot Friday at 8:30 a.m. It will be an open meeting and both candidates will be represented. The election administrator says it's rare that a recount will overturn the board's initial findings.
