Source: Suspect in alleged rape of young girl may have fled U.S.

CLIFTON - Authorities in Clifton are searching for a man who they say raped a 12-year-old girl in Clifton on Friday.

A source close to the investigation tells News 12 New Jersey today that police now believe Leonardo Quintero has fled to South America.

Authorities say the 20-year-old, also known as "Diablo," coaxed the girl to leave her home early Friday morning through an instant message on the Internet.

Cops say the girl was taken to the Clifton home of another suspect, where she was allegedly raped. Authorities say the assault was captured on video. Police say that she was dropped off a block from her home shortly before 8 a.m.

Police say the other suspect, Canpolat Cankurt, 19, who lives where the alleged crime took place, has been taken into custody.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about Quintero's whereabouts to call police at 973-778-7104.
