A funeral was held today for a soldier from Rutherford killed in Afghanistan.Spc. Jonathan Batista was killed on his first deployment, when enemy forces attacked

KINNELON - A funeral was held today for a soldier from Rutherford killed in Afghanistan.

Spc. Jonathan Batista was killed on his first deployment, when enemy forces attacked his unit back on July 8.

Many from Rutherford's police department came to pay their respects to the 22-year-old.

Batista's funeral was held at Our Lady Magnificent Roman Catholic Church in Kinnelon. Batista was laid to rest in the church cemetery.
