EDISON - A large snowstorm made traveling around New Jersey difficult Thursday.

New Jersey State Police say that they responded to hundreds of accidents on state roads and aided just as many drivers who became stuck in the snow.

Speed restrictions were put into place for a time on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway to allow crews to plow and salt the roads.

Traveling by air also proved difficult.

Newark Liberty International Airport saw delays of around four hours Thursday evening. Teterboro Airport did not allow any flights to take off until after 5:15 p.m. By the nighttime hours, flights were delayed for about an hour.

Air travelers were urged to check with their local carriers to find out the status of their flights.

A spokesman for the Port Authority says that nearly 1,000 flights were canceled at Newark Liberty Thursday.

Traveling by rail seemed to have the least amount of delays. Delays during the storm were minimal and the agency was cross-honoring all passes systemwide during the storm.

Temperatures overnight were expected to drop below freezing, leading to potentially icy conditions on roadways. All travelers were urged to use caution if they have to go out and drive.
