NEWARK - Flights are taking off from Newark Liberty International Airport after Tuesday's winter storm delayed travelers for as many as five hours.

Delays began to decrease as the snow stopped falling in the late afternoon.

Residual delays of 30-45 minutes were typical Tuesday evening.

Hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled out of Newark Tuesday afternoon. Delta and United alone canceled more than 400 flights to the northeast.

Airlines were waiving fees to passengers who wanted to change their flights to get around the storm.
