WESTFIELD - It was a snow day for students across the Garden State Wednesday, and many families were eager to take advantage of some time together.

In Westfield, kids went to school, but not to attend class. The hill behind Washington School is a popular place for sledding whenever there is snow on the ground.

"This is what keeps our sanity during a snow day," says Amy Kover, of Westfield. "Get out, get air - kids get worn out and go home and go to bed." It's the perfect plan for parents willing to brave the elements.

Improving road conditions allowed many families to leave their neighborhoods for some indoor fun, like bowling.

"I was tired of being outside with friends because I was cold," says Liam Schetelich, of Scotch Plains, " I went inside and my dad asked if i wanted to go bowling, and I said, ‘Yes.’"

Liam and his dad, Tim, beat the crowd at Garwood Lanes, getting the place almost to themselves. "A little surprised - but happy," said Tim Schetelich. "We have control of the juke box."

Others ventured to the movies to see something fitting. "Today is a snow day and 'Frozen' is about snow," Matthew Scalise, of Kenilworth, says.

Plenty of other New Jersey residents told News 12 New Jersey they chose to use the snow day as a great excuse to stay home all day.
