WALL TOWNSHIP - The mother of the 2-year-old girl that was found murdered in Shark River Park claims that she asked the state for help with the toddler?s father, but her pleas went ignored.
Imani Benton?s daughter, Tierra Morgan-Glover, was allegedly killed by her father Arthur Morgan III. Benton claims, ?"I want my story to be told so nobody, no man, woman, child has to go thru what I went through... If a woman needs help, help her. "
A temporary restraining order against Morgan was obtained by Benton back in Oct. 2010, claiming domestic violence, however the judge refused to give her a permanent restraining order due to lack of evidence. The state also says it received two complaints about Tierra?s home environment, however both were investigated and found to be untrue.
180 Turning Lives Around in Hazlet offered Benton services after she was denied a permanent restraining order. She received parenting classes, group counseling, and joined a domestic violence help group. The Department of Children and Families says Morgan was offered a parenting class and a voluntary substance abuse evaluation, but refused to participate.
Benton now hopes more attention is paid to domestic violence so her daughter's death is not in vain.
