Site in Maple Shade may become medical marijuana dispensary

MAPLE SHADE - A vacant building on Highway 73 in Maple Shade in Burlington County could soon become New Jersey's first medical marijuana dispensary.

Before Compassionate Sciences Incorporated can set up and sick patients can fill a prescription, the local zoning board has to give the go ahead at this week's hearing.

A spokesman for Compassionate Sciences told News 12 New Jersey the state's plan is the most strict in the nation, and the drug can only be given to those with conditions that can't be faked, like cancer.

The Maple Shade location is one of six that may open across the state. There's no word yet on when any of the other locations will come up for local hearings.
